| Sandlotter News: SANDLOTT Baseball and the Mid-State Amateur Baseball Association ( MSABA ) has merged to form the SANDLOTT Mid-State League for 2009. For more than 30 years the two best leagues in middle Tennessee operated separately. Ken Perkins, Mickey Hiter and Chris Mercado the current caretakers of the two leagues have taken steps to bring together the leagues into one great league that will better serve the middle Tennessee youth baseball community. Many teams have been deprived of the opportunity to compete with teams from the other league. The merger of these leagues has created the new league, the SANDLOTT Mid-State League. The SANDLOTT Mid-State League will create many opportunities for teams to compete with each other and create advantages not found in the GNABA and MSABA when operated separately.
Here are some of the advantages that will be created by the merger of these two good baseball leagues.
1. League parity - Teams will compete in divisions in single age groups. These divisions will better match teams for better parity and competition
2. More flexible schedules - Divisional league play will enable us to better manage the number of games required for play to better meet the needs of your team.
3. Less travel - In some cases we can place teams in divisions geographically to cut down on trips to play teams in the outer areas of the league.
4. More tournament opportunities - Between the two leagues we now have access to virtually every national sanction and any national tournament a team might want to participate in. This year's tournament schedule will include the CABA 14u World Series, NABF 15 Classic and seven SANDLOTT World Championships six of which are in the Nashville area.
5. Buying power - The SANDLOTT Mid-State League will have more than 150 teams in 09. This number of teams will enable us to shop effectively for everything from insurance to equipment and uniforms.
6. Super web site - The increase in the number of teams will make www.sandlotter.com one of the most visited youth baseball league sites anywhere. Parents. players, college coaches and other baseball fans will make our web site a regular stop to get up to date baseball information.
7. National visibility - USA Sports Rankings, the Global Baseball Alliance and the all major sanctions will more readily recognize our league as a major select travel league. We will be the largest league in the southeast and we'll be recognized as a national contender.
8. More effective leadership - Ken Perkins, Mickey Hiter, Chris Mercado and Farrell Owens collectively have many many years of experience operating youth baseball leagues. Jack Hand will continue to work in an advisory capacity. Each is committed to a common goal that will insure that the SANDLOTT Mid- State League will be the most successful select travel league in Nashville's youth baseball history. Ken, Mickey, Chris and Farrell have different approaches, different personalities and varied opinions. This diversity will more effectively meet the needs of the diverse teams that are in the league.
